This pilot episode features an intimate accounting of grieving Maine parents who lost their 25-year old son from drugs laced with Fentanyl. During the interview they discuss their years-long struggle seeking to get their child much needed mental health help. Their messages to parents is poignant and brave.

This is part 2 of a conversation with Danielle who shares her experience with her son who lost his battle with SUD in August of 2023. She has decided to turn her pain into action and advocacy by opening the 1st Mile Active Recovery Center in Ft Kent, Me. This resource was desperately needed when her son was seeking help, but it will now support the next person who wants to turn their life around, in the northernmost town in the contiguous US.

In this episode of BSOTB, host Rob DeLeon – deputy CEO of The Fortune Society – and his two guests discuss the importance of the Clean Slate Act. They are Katie Schaffer, director of organizing and advocacy at Center for Community Alternatives (CCA), and Ismael Diaz Jr., a community organizer at CCA who, after returning home after 10 years of incarceration, struggled to access employment, housing, education, and healthcare.

Rock Your Shine – Show 1 – February 2024

During this episode a mother and daughter discuss coping with the loss of their husband and father to suicide. They openly discuss events leading up to his death, the magnitude of the situation, how they individually and collectively cope with the trauma, and the process of grieving that is still unfolding. They also offer a glimpse at how joy can still be accessed even in the face of tremendous loss.

Recover Loud – Season 4 Episode 3

In the 3rd episode, Mike traveled to Lewiston on Christmas Eve and got to sit with Johnny Clark. In front of a live audience, Johnny was able to share his journey of recovery, from his first taste of alcohol to his latest shot at redemption. Johnny says, "I give back because it keeps me sober," which in turn, he is providing hundreds of others the opportunity to get sober themselves. Johnny is the founder of "A Hand Up LLC" which operates 3 sober houses in the Lewiston area, and is working to open another that will give parents a chance at reunifying with their children.
