In honor of Frederick Law Olmsted's 200th birthday, the Portland Parks Conservancy has partnered with friends groups and local organizations around Portland to celebrate our public parks. This summer is full of free events all over the city that are open for everyone! The next events of the season are: July 26th at 6:00pm - Friends of Lincoln Park Presents LoveLincolnPark Concert Series. Come listen to local artists Kate Daggett & Ed DesJardins at Lincoln Park. August 2nd at 6:00pm - Friends of Lincoln Park Presents LoveLincolnPark Concert Series. Come listen to local artist Wayne Street at Lincoln Park. August 9th at 6:00pm - Friends of Lincoln Park Presents LoveLincolnPark Concert Series. Come listen to local artist Blue Prophets at Lincoln Park. August 13th at 10:00am - SailMaine presents Windward Exhibition. See art in a whole new way as you watch painted canvas set sail in casco bay. View from SailMaine or Amethyst Park. August 14th at 6:30pm - Friends of Congress Square Park presents a showing of Designing America. Come to an outdoor movie about Olmsted's life and work and how he influenced our public green spaces. Showing at Congress Square Park. August 18th at 5:00pm - Portland Parks Conservancy hosts a historical walk of Riverton Trolley Park through the eyes of Olmsted. What would Olmsted have done? What is the history of this incredible park? Meet at Riverton Trolley Park parking lot. September 10th at 4:00-7:00 - Waterfront Picnic Finale! Come for food trucks and live music by the water to celebrate how wonderful our parks in Portland truly are. Learn about the future of our parks and which green spaces may soon be public parks in your city. The picnic will be held at Amethyst Park between SailMaine and Ocean Gateway. September 14th at 7:00pm - First ever reading of "This Land was Saved for You and Me" by Jeff Ryan. The book discussed Olmsted's influence on Yosemite National Park and how he came to be the man he is known as now. Reading will be at Mechanic's Hall in Portland.
