About PMC
Our Mission
The members of the Portland Media Center are dedicated to educating, connecting, informing, and facilitating creativity in the Greater Portland area through various aspects of media production. Our services are available to all, regardless of skill level or means.
Our History
PMC was founded in 1986 as a regional community cable channel for area nonprofits to reach the Greater Portland, Maine area by a consortium of nonprofit organizations led by Maine Medical Center, the University of Southern Maine and the City of Portland, Maine. Channel 5 is still live on-air and streaming today where you can find a variety of original and syndicated programming as well as Portland City Council Meetings.
Our Future
As the pace of technological change accelerates, we continue to pioneer innovative ways to reach the greater Portland community. Now known as the Portland Media Center, we continue to produce traditional programming supplemented by original shows, nonprofit programming, member-created content, podcasts, vodcasts, and more. Most importantly, we offer expert training in all types of media production and editing so all Portlanders can raise their voice and be counted.
