On April 23, a grass roots movement, Maine Youth for Climate Justice organized youth from Middle School age to College age to meet at Maine’s Capitol and stress the importance of reversing climate change and supporting the New Green Deal. Many students, Representative Chellie Pingree and Governor Mills had much to say. Students connected climate change with other social injustices. Two students spoke about how climate change has already had a negative effect on their lives.

On April 11, at the Starks Community Center, Starks residents voted on whether or not they favored the proposed Central Maine Power Corridor which will go from Canada to Massachusetts. They heard information from proponents and from opponents. A special town meeting followed. The people of Starks voted more than 2:1 against approving the Corridor.

On March 24th, City Hall in Waterville saw over 250 people gather to hear speakers address the problem of school shootings. Speakers included students, teachers, parents, school administrators and clergy. Support from many surrounding communities were represented at this rally.
