About
Portland Media Center is committed to democratizing access to media tools, encouraging creative collaboration, supporting free expression, and strengthening civic engagement. PMC provides workshops, equipment, facilities, and other resources to give everyone, regardless of skill level and financial means, the opportunity to have a voice through media production.
Our History
Founded in 1986 by a consortium of non-profit organizations, led by Maine Medical Center, the University of Southern Maine, and the City of Portland, Maine, as a regional community cable channel for area nonprofits to reach the Greater Portland area on Channel 5. The PMC pioneers innovative ways of providing community media access, production, education, and networking for the greater Portland communities. We recently launched Civic IQ, an exciting new initiative, to help greater Portland residents increase their media literacy and participation in civic dialogue.
