The New Youth Times
The New Youth Times is a television show created by local teenagers at Portland Media Center about civic engagement. It started as a Civic IQ initiative summer intensive in July 2025 with five teen youth workers from different high schools coming together four days a week via a program called Gateway 2 Opportunity, a collaboration between the Maine Youth Action Network (MYAN) at the Opportunity Alliance and The Young People’s Caucus (YPC) at The Catherine Cutler Institute. The teens learned media tools and techniques and developed a project that involves thoughtful interviews, news desk segments, special features, funny parody commercials and animations. We celebrated and shared the first episode with a large public event on October 23rd and a Q&A with the producers and collaborators.
The first episode is on our site here! And watch for more episodes coming soon. Reach out to the Education Coordinator, Natalie Conn, to get involved with the show : natalie@portlandmedia.org
