Poetry Out Loud 20th Anniversary!

Poetry enthusiasts gather around! On March 3rd, the beauty and variety of verse will be demonstrated at the Waterville Opera House in the Poetry Out Loud Maine Student Finals!

In this 20th Anniversary of the event, contestants from all over the state of Maine will participate to recite selected pieces of poetry in the most affecting, emotional way they can, and will compete for a chance to win $200 and continue into the National Poetry Out Loud Championship, where they will attempt to win a grand prize of $20,000 for their excellence in recitation. Participants get to choose from over 1,200 revered classic and modern poems to demonstrate their skills.

The competition also helps to support the schools of finalists, who will receive compensation to put towards their own resources for poetry. Alongside the performances themselves, you will get to see the finalists in interviews explaining their background and passion for the art of poetry, as well as interviews from the judges and showrunners explaining the process of putting on a statewide event like this.

The Portland Media Center is proud to be covering this event, and a livestream will be broadcast on March 3rd at 5 PM. The link to the livestream is below. If you can’t catch it live, this link will link to a recording so you can enjoy it anytime. Click on it now to set a reminder and subscribe to our YouTube channel!
