From the Desk of the Director

Greetings,

Tiny steps and goings on at Portland Media Center.

As I write this note we are setting up to record an Audio Book, Bring Rain, by Sarah Petrin in the Whisper Booth that we pulled out last month.

It’s been hidden in the darkness behind the scenes and now that we’ve pulled it out, we’ve got an author in there reading her book. We will tell you all about it when she’s ready to deliver it.

The podcast studio is busy recording and producing podcasts of compassion and music and that room and those mics make everyone sound like a radio host. Did you know that you can connect your phone to it as well? Bring someone in from California or the jungles of Borneo, it will make them sound so good. Don’t worry if you weren’t aware of that capability, we are offering workshops on how to make a podcast. Check the website for details and then come on in and make a podcast!

Speaking of workshops, be on the look out for more workshops to educate and incubate your ideas. We are getting the space set up to offer more and more workshops on media mastery. A podcast workshop? Yeah, I mentioned that already, and you already know about the studio workshops? Well, this summer we are planning on developing a storytelling workshop and an editing workshop. So after you take the Field Camera Workshop, head out and create some gold, but wait, what then? What do you do? We will show you! Adobe Creative Suite is our kitchen. Be on the lookout, we will teach you how to cook in there.

And on that note, what workshop would YOU like to see us offer? What workshop would you take? How to record strangers on the bus? Or Lighting for the emotional portrait? How about editing for the very beginner? Or the advanced? We want to hear from you.

Send a us a note to workshops@portlandmedia.org

Portland Media Center is waiting to hear your story. Come on in, and let’s make something great.
