The image of Jesus of Nazareth that’s conveyed to us is often misleading. Jesus did indeed personify the love for God and neighbor, but He also fearlessly advocated truth and justice. He spoke His words of truth into a society that was controlled by an external military power, the Romans. Many people were touched in their souls by the high spiritual teachings of His Sermon on the Mount, and they began to believe in Him and to the “spiritual evolution of peaceableness.”
