PMC Leap Day 2020 and the Hero Telethon

PMC will be taking a big leap into our community on February 29, 2020

Our plan is to challenge our volunteers and anyone in the community who has a video camera or is willing to learn to use our cameras, to tape a total of 80 local, 3-5 minute human-interest stories, from Oct. 1, 2019 through February 2020.

Examples of such stories are:

  • Profiles of people who make a difference in our community

  • A business that uses their resources to help someone in need

  • Simple acts of kindness between neighbors

  • Special relationships between people and animals

  • Projects in our schools focused on helping others or protecting our environment

  • The exceptional courage of someone dealing with a fatal illness

This is a world we rarely see in mass media but that is very real and abundant, right here, around us. We plan to collect these stories over the next five months and premiere all of them on Leap Day, Feb. 29, 2020, with occasional live pitches to support our efforts either with donations or by joining PMC to expand the community's voice and exercise our right to free speech in order to change our community and the world.

As a community media center, our mission is to develop our community by giving everyone, regardless of income, ability or social status, a voice. In a world where mass media portrays our world as fraught with problems and out of our control, we know community media has the potential to reflect back to the community a positive image of itself, a world where each person makes a difference.
